Winter Break

The day after Christmas always seems a bit slow.  This year I "whazzed it up" with a family service project cleaning out a friend's garage.  Good times.
We did stop to play a few games and just sit together.
Saturday afternoon Austin and I were the ONLY ones home -- we napped.  About three minutes in, we heard a knock at the door and our miraculous moment was dismissed.  Here's to next year.
MY 44th BIRTHDAY happened all day Sunday.  We were up early for church and presents.  My children were especially genereous.
Molly made me a nativity and a special message using popsicle sticks.  She's a true fan.
The world was up late decorating for my big party.
We ate a lovely dinner (Molly and I prepared it Saturday afternoon along with my dessert) and they sang just for me.
That's a hot chocolate chip cookies in the bottom of the ramekin served with homemade ice cream.  I really out did myself.  Happy Birthday to Me
Of course family choir was a MUST -- it's still my favorite activity each week.  We sang all the birthday  and mother's songs in the primary songbook.  That's funny.  I'm clever.
Katie and Jared Bliss stopped by with two kinds of fresh cookies and I tried on this new shirt I made -- it's a nod to my faorite series -- "The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lions."

44 is kind of a vibe -- I'm content.  The fruits of my labors are so sweet and joyful.  I am a child of God, a child of the covenant, and strive to be a disciple of Christ.  My husband and I are so happy together, and I have children who love God and love each other.  I am me, and that is enough.

Christmas Day in the Morning

It's Christmas!  I was the only person awake at 7:15am, so I called Maisie and wished her a Merry Christmas.  She was a little teary, she told me that she wasn't ready to open presents yet, so we set up her messenger call on the window sill and she was apart of the entire morning.

At 7:36am I heard the carolers from the basement stairs, and the morning began.

Here are my is our 2024 group of Christmas posterity.
Bea and Winnie added that extra special dimension, that ate all the pacakaging and played with all the peper.
Eddie was quite excited about his Nerf orbeez gun.  Luckily Ryan and Nick received the same gun, so then they spent much of the afternoon targeting each other.  Eddie had welts all over his back, but the only stray bullet that hit Bea's head did not leave a welt.
Nick came spazzing up the stairs with all the excitement of a little kid.  Christmas Day
Andy had to follow his act.  Please note that I did not give pajamas this year.  Andy summed up my sentiments, "That's fine, we only wear them one time anyway."  Nick rummaged through his drawers and found a set, Andy demanded the top, but he managed to hold on to the bottoms.  Andy wore his little Christmas shirt the entire day. AHAHHAH!
After the stockings were torn apart and explored, something different happened this year.  All of the siblings bought gifts for each other.  One sibling passed our their gifts to each person then we opened them at the same time.  We cheered and thanked the giver with hugs an speeches.  The gifts were thoughtful and thrifty, and the "giving" vibe was palpable.  Ryan's Gifts "I gave Eddie what I wanted."
Bald Triplets.
We laughed at Andy's wrapping job -- not even Christmas paper.

Meticulous Maddie took her sweet time.

Molly's haul from the parents, surrounded by the hulu hoop from Nick.

The group.  That final picture around the tree is always a bit sad.  The magic of the new gifts is over, and we know that we have to move on.
Oh!  The elf created a sledding hill complete with igloos, Little People neighbors and snow.

Grandma and Grandpa always have a breakfast feast just waiting for the gluttons.  Grandpa's special flax/blueberry pancakes were hearty and delicious.
Grandma rarely sits whilst we do.

Grandma sent us out to feed the chickens a Christmas feast as well.  At one point I saw Andy laying on the driveway, Nick pouring the pecans on his chest and both of them waiting for the birds to eat from his belly.

After our feast breakfast feast fit for a king, we were home for a couple hours (a quick workout, present return details and an orbeez war) it was time for prime rib roast.  Sweet Austin and I worked together.

The day was dwindling at this point, but there were a few people we still needed to love.  Off we went to visit Cora (in Haven) and Carol (at home).  We sang with our bells and loved with our souls.

The Grandparents and the Olmsteads came to watch "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" via Dallas Jenkins, but we were all in and out talking to Maisie most of the evening.
A beautiful day in which our greatest blessings were felt and graditude was given to Him who was born, to Him who died, and to Him who was resurrected so that we, too, might enjoy the blessings of eternal families forever.  Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was full of music, food and festivities.  This is the least stressed we've ever been.

Molly found her favorite dollies early this morning.

Most of the day we prepped for our annual Christmas concert.  There is one rule -- all have to participate.

This year's Feast of the Seven Fishes was epic.  The babies dove right over their barrier, but some how their parents still ate.
Salmon.
Clams and mussels.
Ceviche.
Crab leg, oyster, mussel and corn shells.
The shells.  Oh, Molly reminded me that Santa needed cooies, so I whipped some up while the dishes were being done.
Casual grouping of children -- Grandpa always shares a message.  This year he shared D&C 6 -- a verse and theme of gifts from God.

A day filled with music and each other - the best kind of days.  Austin and I were up a little late doing some final prep, but we still fell into bed and dreamed of sugarplums.

Christmas Adam

Our dear friend, Rick Stokes, died today.  After a 4 mile jog, Meg and I made dinner and spent time with their family.  Just yesterday Rick harrassed me about never seeing me at church and hardly participating.  He was just 68 and died peacefully in his sleep.  He will be missed.

Every other hour we spent in preparation for our Polar Bear Plunge and party.  We invited friends from the community and church this year, and it was a grand time.  Austin planned games and prizes.  Meg, Maddie and I totally crushed the word scramble game.  Andy's large circumfrence won him the Christmas tree role, and we ate SEVEN loaves of bread [chocolate, rosemary, Christmas (craisin, pecan and white chocolate chip), cheddar jalapeno and plain] along with three crockpots of soup.

Austin always throws a very delightful party.
