Ryan's Blessing Day

Austin used his priesthood keys as a father and gave our baby a name and a blessing.  Austin spoke sweet words of encouragement and joy to Ryan.  Ryan was quiet and peaceful, and I know he felt the love of Heavenly Father and our family.  We felt very blessed that our divine Babcock Grandparents were here to be apart of it.

A Grand Party for Grandpa B.

(That title was a sad attempt to be clever.)  Grandpa and Grandma B. came to our house and were surprised with a fantastic party.  We ate a lovely dinner, sang the traditional song with lit candles on a fruit pizza, and presented a program complete with music, instruments and props.  All because we love Grandpa B.!
Natalie came up with the ingenious idea to make masks of Grandpa's face.  Here are 12 little Bruces.

Lighting of the candles.  Notice the medals around his neck -- each had a favorite quality written on them (also Nat's idea).
 Sparklers.  Nat's idea.
His magnet board filled with picture of him.

I had to finish off with Grandma and her twin, Maddie.

Nelsons!

One day this special sister drove two days and 20 hours with no husband and 6 kids in tow to come to my house (how's that for prepositional phrases?).  Here are some highlights so far.  Truth, it's all been a highlight.

Eating together. Austin makes all the meals.
Bathing together.
Church together.
 Studio C together.
Ward breakfasts together.
Bundts together.

Haha!  No pictures of swimming together; I'll get on that!

Last Day of School

Both Andy and Nick were awarded "Student of the Year" in their classes.  They deserved it.  So did I!  So did Maisie.  She was truly generous in her exctiement for their awards, and that made her my student of the year!

We celebrated the beginning of summer later that afternoon with ice cream.

Shakespeare Day

Nick and his 1st grade class danced a minuet and wound the May pole.
Maisie and her 3rd grade class performed, "The Taming of the Shew."  She played Bianca and was sweet and charming.
Andy and his 4th grade class performed, "The Tempest." He played the main character, Prospero.  He actually stayed home sick with a fever and flu-like symptoms.  Yet, I made him get to the stage and get it on.  He did!  Then he came home and crashed for another 48 hours.

Meg was home with Eddie and Maddie.  Phew.  6 hours at the school would not have served them well.  Lucky was lucky to be my faithful sidekick.

Happy Mother's Day, to Me!

Quite the arrogant title, but that's what I am.  I am a mother.  This is what seven looks like.  Not gonna lie, I had to try to have a good day, i.e. I still had to be patient when: Ed wet his pants twice, when Meg needed two hours of homework help during the critical hours of the evening, when Eddie jumped off the couch during scriptures, when Maisie twirled her Sunday dress on her fingers and started biting it, when Maddie was offended that I forgot to unbuckle her before I got out of the car, when Nick and Andy threw punches and loud words, when I was the solo dish washer, when I awakened first from the afternoon nap, when I spent two hours getting seven little children ready for chruch and only spent seven minutes on me.

But mostly what I've been reflecting on is that I have yet to learn how to be patient with myself: when I slam cupboard doors because I am the only one working in the kitchen, when I cry because my hair makes me look like a sister wife, when my skirt bunches funny because I still need to lose a good six pounds, and when I felt angry that I live alone, far from my mother and sisters.  So patience with myself means using the Atonement of Jesus Christ to forgive myself, move forward and do it all again tomorrow.  Because really, if my family really wants me to have a "Mother's Day" they'd pack my bags and send me on a cruise.  Alone.  But then, no one on the boat would know that I am a mother, and that is what defines me most.

Mother's Lounge at church today.
Neglecting Ed while I was sitting/pouting in my closet eating a bag of candy.
The homework hounds.
 The chruch movie junkies.
 The green gringos.
Adoring angels.
Smiling siblings.

Playing in May

May has been for play.  I got a pedicure with my peeps!
Saturday we offically opened the pool -- still not heated -- just the girls swam, with wetsuits.
We also attended the Sedona Chili Cook Off.
Austin is trying to look as distressed as Baby.
My first Sunday with Ryan to church.  Our day was perfect!

Lucky's suit.
We have 12 days of school left.  Looking forward to a long, hot summer filled with a couple trips to Utah, Sahaurita, and lots of swimming.
